2030: The Year Of Tri-Fuel Usage In Shipping Fleets
The survey, conducted by The Global Maritime Forum, the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation, and the Mærsk McKinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, reveals a trend towards diversified fuel usage. By 2050, 43% of respondents expect to use three types of fuels, and 49% wish to use four or more.
Predictions show fuel oil usage decreasing from 66% in 2030 to 17% by 2050. Meanwhile, we expect growth in alternative fuels like green hydrogen, e-ammonia, blue ammonia, e-methanol, biomethane, and biodiesel.
Adopting alternative fuels is primarily driven by their cost and availability, customers’ willingness to pay for greener options and regulatory changes. The industry leaders emphasize the need for clear reduction targets and policies to support the transition to green fuels. (read more…)
